The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

By Clare - 07-02-2012 Rating:
A 41-gun salute by the King's Troop Royal Artillery in Hyde Park yesterday signified the beginning of the year long celebrations that will take place across the UK to mark Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne, Queen Elizabeth, now 85, broke with her usual tradition of commemorating the day her father died and she became Queen in private with two engagements in Norfolk.

2012 is set to be an extravaganza of pageantry and parties. Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Elton John have all confirmed that they will be playing at The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert on 4th June at Buckingham Palace. The concert will follow a day of nautical fun on the River Thames with over a thousand boats set to muster for one of the largest ever flotillas.

With so much going on you don't want to be caught out on your royal knowledge so why not pick up a copy of The Book of Royal Useless Information - everything you have ever wanted to know about the history of Britain's Royal Family like how Charles I liked to place his 18-inch court dwarf between half-loaves of bread and pretend to eat him, and how the Queen uses black blotting paper so people can't see what she's written.

Jam-packed with surprising, shocking and hilarious facts you'll be ready to impress!
